Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish a fire within 12 minutes of arrival at a manufactured home fire this morning in Poulsbo. However, a family of five, plus one dog and two cats are displaced because of heavy damage to the residence.
Crews from Poulsbo Fire Department, North Kitsap Fire Department, Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue, and Navy Region Northwest responded to the call on Erickson, off Highway 3 just before 8 AM. When crews arrived on scene, there were flames leaping from the deck and the side of the house, and smoke coming from the eaves. The first arriving fire engine quickly extinguished the majority of the fire. Despite a very long driveway and no nearby hydrants, multiple agencies worked together to completely extinguish any remaining hot spots.
The 34-year-old father said he woke up this morning hearing crackling sounds and thought people were trying to break into his car. He ran outside to find the house on fire. His 35-year-old wife, 12-year-old and 11-year-old sons, plus their pets were all able to escape the fire. Their five-year-old daughter was with friends, and not home at the time
The Kitsap County Fire Marshal is investigating the incident. The family was in the process of moving and had all their belongings boxed up in the home. They did not have renter’s insurance. The Red Cross was activated to assist.
